When cave researchers uncover a connection between the death of a colleague in a Mexican pit and the desecration of an exquisite Sequoia National Park cave, they become pawns in a plot to replace the FBI with a Blackwater-styled security firm. The end-game plays out in the labyrinth of California's longest cave.

This book is a nice blend of techno-thriller, murder-mystery, & damn good story. It's got everything; An opening scene that grips you and pulls you in, a flawed protagonist, a wealth of in-depth color of the author's home town, a cabal secretly pulling the strings, a ham radio setup, & some really yummy sounding food.
The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that the first few chapters were too technically put together. The editing appeared rushed and while all the relevant story detail was there the flow was strained.
But a damned good read!

Double Drop H A Hurtt Bill Frantz 9781449906993 Books Reviews
Excellent read. Written with true insight and vivid imagary of someone who has imersed themselved in the suject matter for years.
Double Drop rappels the reader into ta swirl of tension, intrigue and danger amid the stunning high Sierra and its beautiful yet fragile caves. Author Hurtt mixes nail-biting action with a seasoning of wry humor in his story of a grop of cavers caught up in high-level political intrigue played for deadly stakes.
This book keeps you on the edge of your seat from the first page onward.
The witty humor and excellent character development far exceed what one would expect of a first-time published author. Also, the accuracy of the descriptions of the caving world give the reader a sense of being really involved in the story.
I would highly recommend this book to anyone, caver or not.
I'm looking forward to more work from this author!
Caving with intrigue and colorful characters. Not a single boring explanation of caving technology to be found here. Clever pop culture references. Fantastic book. Looking forward to reading more from H.A. Hurtt.
A thriller with plenty of action to satisfy your inner sadist. Conspirators plot to take over the United States and then the world to fulfill their destiny as white Christians. This is to begin by discrediting the FBI so that a private international security firm can take over law-enforcement. Somehow this is supposed to be accomplished by framing a group of caving friends as international terrorists and killing them. A lot of the action takes place in Big Spring Cave, the longest cave in California. Even though Googling "longest cave in California" will tell you its real name a half-dozen times on the response page, I suppose an argument could be made for disguising the cave. But using aliases for the National Speleological Society and even Facebook is just plain silly. The author is a caver and NSS member and displays a lot of knowledge about equipment, techniques, and the "Cave Research Institute" project at Lilburn, but spoils the effect somewhat by calling that thing a cow-tail.
The bad guys are caricatures, most of the incidents are implausible, and the overall plot doesn't make a lot of sense, even though I read the whole thing. I had to, because I'd promised to write this review. (Written for cavers.)
